A Run Through History

The Spirit of Gettysburg is a nationally-renowned event which includes a 5K run, 5K Wheelchair Race, 1-Mile Fun Run/Fitness Walk and Kids’ Sprints.  The event is one of the few road races to be held on Civil War battlefields.  Rated as one of the best historical runs in the country and USATF certified, the course tours the first day of the famous July 1863 Battle of Gettysburg.

More than 1,200 individuals from the Mid-Atlantic region, as well as across the United States, Canada and Europe participate in this exciting race.  Pre-registered participants receive a race T-shirt, refreshments and a race packet complete with promotional items and discount coupons for area businesses.  Numerous items are awarded for every age and level of ability.

The Spirit of Gettysburg festivities kick-off July 11, from Noon to 8 p.m., with race registration and race packet pick-up.  Registration is held at the Gettysburg YWCA East Building, located at 909 Fairfield Road, Gettysburg.

If you would like information on the race, please contact Tammie Brush-Campbell, race director, at (717) 334-9171, ext. 216 or email spirit5K@ywcagettysburg.org.
