Children’s Diversity Read Aloud Program

The YWCA Gettysburg & Adams County’s Advocacy Committee has a Children’s Diversity Read Aloud program at our two YWCA Childcare Centers, 909 and Adams Commerce Center, based on our mission of eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, childcare field trips and activities are now limited. Therefore, we’re looking for volunteers to read to the children. The books should focus on diversity and, if possible, be read by people from a variety of different cultures.

Volunteers will:

  1. Choose a convenient time to read.
  2. Choose a specific age group to read to such as the school age summer camp students or the children of the childcare program.
  3. Choose a book of your choice or ask for a recommendation from Advocacy Committee.
  4. Read in person, via ZOOM, or in a video recording
  5. Dress as a character in the book or bring items to teach about a culture.

Please contact Lyne Aurand at moc.liamg@dnaruarlyrad or call/text 717-495-1103 if you’d like to volunteer or know someone the Advocacy Committee can contact.
