WE BELIEVE THAT EVERY GIRL CAN EMBRACE WHO SHE IS, CAN DEFINE WHO SHE WANTS TO BE, CAN RISE TO ANY CHALLENGE, CAN CHANGE THE WORLD!
Welcome to YWCA Gettysburg’s Girls on the Run , a life-changing, non-profit program for girls in grades 3rd through 5th offered through YWCA Gettysburg
Our mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. The 24-lesson Girls on the Run curriculum combines training for a 5K (3.1 miles) running event with lessons that inspire girls to become independent thinkers, enhance their problem solving skills, and make healthy decisions. All of this is accomplished through an active collaboration with girls and their parents, schools, volunteers, staff, and the community.
Check out what one of our families from our Spring 2021 season told us:
My daughter, had an absolute blast at girls on the run. Socially, she made friends will all the other runners and all the awesome, supportive coaches. Physically, she was challenged to run the 5k….but she did it and was so proud!!! Mentally, the confidence and determination that she gained through the program will hopefully stay with her in years to come! Thanks to the Y for hosting the program. It was my daughters first year, but she is a fifth grader. So it will unfortunately be her last. We wish we had known about the program in prior years! It was awesome!!
